Recently, there has been correspondence in the press about the pursuit of prosecutions for speed fines by foreign (continental) nation states on UK Nationals after they have returned to UK.
One correspondent reported that he had received a speed fine for exceeding the Swiss speed limit by only 3 kph. (It is worth noting that the ticket would explain (in the small print) that the Swiss apply a built-in tolerance of at least 10%, so the correspondent was probably driving at around 58 kph in a 50 kph zone). There is also the right to appeal.
However, despite modern methods of tracking and the (possibly illegal) exchange of motorists' personal data by national governments (the worst offender being UK), there is no way that the fine can currently be collected by the Swiss Authorities once the offending driver has returned to UK.
In addition, the chances of it being recorded at all are remote as the ticket record will be deleted quite quickly at source; this is because continental bureaucracies work. (except in the Netherlands where parking and speeding is regarded as a criminal offence and will have the right to arrest you when you next enter their country - just like in the USA).
